Twitter has started testing the 'save for later' bookmarking feature that it had teased last month. Called 'Bookmarks', the feature is aimed at helping its 330 million monthly active users privately flag tweets for personal viewing at their convenience.

To recall, Twitter had announced in October that it is developing a bookmarking feature to save tweets. Keith Coleman, Head of Product, had revealed that a new feature #SaveForLater was in the works.

Back to this week's announcement - late on Thursday, Tina Koyama, a staff product designer at the company, tweeted, "News from the #SaveForLater team! We've decided to call our feature 'Bookmarks' because that's a commonly used term for saving content and it fits nicely alongside the names of the other features in the navigation."

The feature will help users keep a separate list of items they want to refer back to, instead of using the heart (aka "favourite") button, which can indicate more of a "like" - similar to the "thumbs up" button on Facebook.

Back in October when announcing the feature was in development, Twitter product manager Jesar Shah had said the feature was popularly requested by users, adding that many people, "especially in Japan", had asked for this ability.

The new feature may appear in a menu in the bottom right corner of a tweet on smartphones, or in the v-drop-down menu in the upper-right corner on desktop, TechCrunch claims, citing user reports.+

Entrepreneur Elon Musk has won a $50 million (roughly Rs. 324 crores) bet by beating a 100-day deadline for building a giant battery to help South Australia avoid energy blackouts, officials said.

State Premier Jay Weatherill said testing of the massive lithium ion battery would begin within days, ahead of the December 1 deadline Musk set for himself when he signed off on the project earlier this year.

Musk had pledged to build the battery in the South Australian outback for free if it was not completed within the 100 days. He estimated that would cost at least $50 million - local authorities will now pick up the tab.

The entrepreneur behind electric carmaker Tesla made the pledge in response to power woes in South Australia, which was last year hit by a state-wide blackout after severe winds from an "unprecedented" storm tore transmission towers from the ground.

"South Australia is set to have back-up power in place this summer through the world's largest lithium ion battery, which is set to be energised for the first time in the coming days as it enters a phase of regulatory testing," Weatherill said in a statement late Thursday.

Musk's Tesla Powerpack is connected to a wind farm operated by French energy firm Neoen and is expected to hold enough power for thousands of homes during periods of excess demand that could result in blackouts.

South Africa-born Musk was a founder of payments company PayPal, electric carmaker Tesla Motors and SpaceX, maker and launcher of rockets and spacecraft.

He is also chairman of SolarCity, a solar panel installer recently bought by Tesla.

He has envisaged Tesla as a company that can help reduce emissions by not only selling people electric cars, but also generating and storing the solar energy that powers them.

Australia is one of the world's worst per capita greenhouse gas polluters, due to its heavy use of coal-fired power.

Sony India on Friday expanded its noise cancellation headphones lineup with the launch of four new wireless headphones. Prices of the new headphones start from Rs. 14,990.

The new Sony noise cancellation wireless headphones lineup consists of four models - WH-1000XM2 priced at Rs. 29,990, WH-H900N priced at Rs. 18,990, WF-1000X priced at Rs. 14,990, and WI-1000X priced at Rs 21,990. To recall, three of these wireless headphones were launched at IFA 2017, with the WF-1000X being Sony's rival to Apple's AirPods. The latter two headphones are already available in India, while the first two will go on sale from December 14. All the wireless headphones will be available in a Black colour variant, with the WH-1000MX2 available in Gold as well.

The Sony WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X headphones are equipped with atmospheric pressure optimising feature that optimises their noise cancellation performance based on air pressure, a company official told reporters in New Delhi.

WH-1000XM2, WF-1000X, and WI-1000X come with Sony's integrated technology called Sense Engine that will offer 'adaptive sound control' to deliver a personalised experience for every type of audio, including music and ambient sound, based on the environment.

Taking about battery life, the Sony WH-1000XM2 are said to last 40 hours with an audio cable or 30 hours wirelessly. The Quick Charge function pumps in 70 minutes of battery life in 10 minutes of charging.

The Sony WF-1000X come with a charging case - just like the AirPods - for up to nine hours of usage.

The Sony WH-1000XM2 and WH-H900N feature a Quick Attention Mode that offers a smart way to control listening experience on the go. The latter headphones bring feature an around-the-year style.

Sony also unveiled a companion app called Headphones Connect App that detects the environment the user is using the headphones in, and also uses the accelerometer to detect user activity, to fine tune the listening experience for the user. The headphones will retail at all Sony Centers and electronics stores in the country.

Finnish startup Yepzon has launched its duo of personal GPS trackers in India. The company is positioning the Yepzon One and Yepzon Freedom as safety devices for use by kids and women respectively, though they can be used to trace the location of pets, objects like cars, or pretty much anything else.

Both Yepzon One and Yepzon Freedom - priced at Rs. 3,999 and Rs. 5,999 respectively - are GPS trackers that are capable of reporting their location back to your smartphone via a built-in SIM. In India, the Yepzon devices will ride on Vodafone’s network for cellular connectivity, but the users won’t need to worry about recharging or maintaining another number. The Yepzon duo come with a free one-year subscription, and after that users will need to pay Rs. 100 per month, a price that includes cost of the cellular connectivity.

Yepzon One is a GPS tracker without any buttons that is designed to be worn by kids or pets, while the keychain-shaped Yepzon Freedom has a SOS button that will alert your emergency contact with your location when pressed three times. Yepzon claims the devices take 3 to 6 seconds to lock-in their location and report it at up to 3 metre accuracy. Apart from GPS, Yepzon Freedom is capable of using Wi-Fi indoor positioning to try and detect your location indoors where GPS connection may not be available.

The companion app lets you customise things like how often the tracker automatically reports back its location, something that will have an impact on the battery life. If you set to the trackers to report their location every few minutes, you may need to recharge them every 3-4 days, but with features like intelligent motion detection, which reports back your location only when you are moving, Yepzon claims you can go “several weeks” in between charges. The Yepzon Freedom can also operate in a mode where it doesn’t report back location until you press the SOS button. Both devices can be recharged using the built-in Micro-USB port.

The Yepzon One and Yepzon Freedom are now available via Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a unified app to serve e-governance through mobile devices. Called Umang (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), the app is developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD) to offer services of the central, state, local bodies, and various government agencies right on Android and iOS based mobile devices. The new offering had emerged on the sidelines of the fifth Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS) in New Delhi.

"Today, we launched the Umang Mobile App, which will provide over a hundred citizen-centric services. At the back-end, these services will be catered for by many different departments of the Union and State Governments. This integrated approach will add an automatic layer of 'peer performance pressure', in the working of these departments," Prime Minister Modi said while addressing the audience at GCCS.

The Umang app bundles a list of Digital India services, including Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and PayGov. Additionally, the app provides citizens with all the major government services provided through app, web, SMS, and IVR channels. In terms of e-governance, citizens can use the Umang app to access their income tax filing, LPG cylinder bookings, and Provident Fund account. Parents can also use the Umang app to access CBSE results. It has multilingual support with as many as 10 Indian languages in addition to Hindi and English and includes a payment-based transaction access.

Unlike any third-party apps to access e-governance services, the Umang app supports Aadhaar and other authentication mechanisms such as your phone number and location to give you single-point ubiquitous access to all government services.

You need to register your identity to start using the Umang app. The registration process begins with an OTP (one-time password) that will be generated to your provided mobile number. You'll also need to choose a couple of security questions and fill in their answers that will help you recover the Umang account. Once you've completed the registration, the app will ask you to set an MPIN that will be used alongside your mobile number to access the app.

Also, the Umang app has social media integration that allows you to connect your Facebook, Google, and Twitter accounts and enable one-touch login process.

The interface of the Umang app appears to be convenient for novices. Similarly, the app comes with features like favourites and push notification alerts to help you leverage the benefits of e-governance in the country. There is a support option available on the app to help citizens reach experts for their doubts related to the app or its listed services. However, that option didn't connect us with one of the agents at the time of our testing.

The Umang app is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 and above and iOS 8.0 and later. Moreover, you can give a missed call on 97183-97183 to get the app download link on your number.
